Childcare Resources

Trying Together

Allegheny Child Care is a unique pilot project that was developed to support the care and education needs of families. Caregivers and parents of young children can search available spots at all early learning, after school, summer camp, and virtual programs in Allegheny County in real-time with the Allegheny Child Care, After School, and Summer Camps finder tool.

The Allegheny Child Care Finder Tool was funded through the generous support of The Heinz Endowments and Eden Hall Foundation and is managed by Trying Together in partnership with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services and Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time (APOST). For more information about Allegheny Child Care, email

Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC)

Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Resource Centers (ELRCs) strives to ensure every child and family in Allegheny County has access to high-quality, accessible, and affordable early learning opportunities.

They provide a single point-of-contact for families, early learning service providers, and communities to gain information and access services that support high-quality child care and early learning programs.

ELRCs consolidated the work of Child Care Works (CCW) Agencies and Regional Keys to create an enhanced resource and referral system for communities seeking early learning services and supports.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services (ACDHS) is pleased to partner with the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) to support Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) Region 5 in partnership with The Alliance for Infants and Toddlers, and Trying Together.

Visit the ELRC website for additional contact information.

YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh

The school year will look different this year and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh wants to ensure that children have access to all of the opportunities they need to learn, grow and thrive. We are working with local school districts to provide the care that you need. When school returns for in-person learning we will be there for before and after care as before. We are currently securing locations outside of the school building to offer full day care for families who will require a safe place for their students to participate in virtual learning for days when in-person learning is not available at your local school.

Our programs are built with your child’s safety at the forefront. We have been successfully running summer camps and are taking precautions outlined by the CDC to ensure the health and safety of staff and participants, including limited class sizes, assigning students to one group for an entire week, mask wearing, physical distancing and frequent hand washing and cleaning. Many schools are still unsure what the beginning of the school year will look like but we encourage you to hold your spot in our out of school time programs.

Community Learning Pods

We currently offer full-day, weekly options for students and provide a place to have fun, make new friends and become more active. Children create lasting memories as they engage in a variety of educational and imaginative activities that encourage them to explore who they are and what they can achieve. Enrichment programs at the Y are flexible, convenient and offer enriching opportunities for children under adult supervision. We boast unique and innovative approaches to traditional after school care full of fun activities indoors and outdoors.

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh will provide your student with a safe place to participate in their virtual lessons.  Groups of approximately 11 students will be assigned to one YMCA educator who will support their school learning while also providing additional activities for the day. Students will be required to bring their own technology and headsets each day.

We will be following all the state and local recommended safety protocols.
