Grab Some Popcorn: Movie Nights Return to HACP High Rises Through Fall 2025

June 17, 2025

Mobile Movie Nights are back at HACP high rise communities, thanks to the generosity of Highmark Wholecare, with support from HACP Moving to Work Funds.

Reggie Smith and Dennis Walker of the Manchester Citizens Corporation/Mobile Movie Nights travel to Caligiuri Plaza, Carrick Regency, Gualtieri Manor, Finello Pavilion, Mazza Pavilion, Morse Gardens, Murray Towers, Northview Heights, PA Bidwell, and Pressley Street each month to bring a night of entertainment to HACP residents.

Tenants can choose from more than 1,000 movie titles, dating as far back as the 1970s.

“We let the residents decide on the movie we show,” Smith said. “This gives residents the chance to get out and socialize with one another, which hasn’t happened too often since the pandemic. We also provide them with healthy snacks and drinks.”

Walker said they try to keep the visits consistent each month. Residents should check for flyers posted in their respective communities outlining the schedule.

The remaining June 2025 HACP Mobile Movie Nights Schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, June 18:

  • PA Bidwell

Thursday, June 19:

  • Murray Towers

Friday, June 20:

  • Morse Gardens

Friday, June 27:

  • Pressley Street
  • Northview Heights

Mobile Movie Nights begin each spring, and run through the fall. Smith said in warmer months, residents can request holding the events outdoors.

“We also let the kids in the community help us out sometimes,” Smith added. “We like to give back to the youth.”

Smith and Walker said they appreciate the Housing Authority and Highmark Wholecare for supporting the Mobile Movie Nights program.

“We have been doing this program here for the last five years, and we hope to do it for years to come,” Smith added.

“Social interaction is important for a person’s mental health and vitality,” said Karen Rollins-Fitch, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Highmark Wholecare. “This is one of the reasons why we find it important to work with the HACP in bringing Mobile Movie Nights to residents in their community.”

Walker said before COVID, the residents would hold potlucks and larger gatherings for the movie nights.

“We really hope we can get back to doing the potlucks again,” he said. “The residents really enjoy them. These events really give them the chance to have a fun night with their neighbors.”

High rise residents are encouraged to look for the Mobile Movie Night flyers that are posted in common areas, laundry rooms and near the elevators the week prior to the scheduled event.

Walker said he and Smith would like to switch it up and add game nights for residents with prizes they can use in everyday life.

“We appreciate the Housing Authority for giving us the opportunity to serve their tenants. We enjoy coming out and building a rapport with the residents, too. It’s a fun time for all of us!”
